“It’s clear that remote and exotic destinations—places that convey a sense of authenticity and adventure—are ruling the day once again in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards,” said Nancy Novogrod , editor in chief of Travel + Leisure. “The top ten hotels overall are African camps and lodges; resorts in India; a property in Chiang Mai; and a luxury lodge in Montana. The top cities overall span the globe—Bangkok, Florence, New York, Istanbul, Siem Reap, and Sydney, to mention a few.”

Has anyone been to these award winning properties?

  1. this is total BS ....there is no way ZipCar can be the best rental company .....for one they dont even have a rewards program and other than Canada where else does ZipCar operate....these awards are total bull crap !!!!!

  3. Excellent post and thank you for sharing this. Currently living in the Washington DC Metro area, I do certainly get to see first-hand how Zipcar has vastly penetrated the consumer market here. But does Zipcar outweigh competitors like Enterprise? Avis? Budget? Is the award for best rental car company based on concept and growth rate? I am a huge advocate for Zipcar and am not refuting the reward, I am just interested in learning more about the process which was taken for these results.

Based on that, quick question for you...what was the total number of data points used to formulate these awards? Was the survey based on a panel of hospitality critics/experts, or was a small or large sample size taken? Again, I am not refuting the awards given, I would just like to know more about the validity of this information.

On a separate note, I am enjoying reading your various posts on the hospitality industry tremendously. I will be looking forward to future posts. Take care.

  4. I read the travel and leisure magazine(travelandleisure.com), which give out these awards on a yearly basis. They have panel of experts who look at the growth and innovation, while taking guest polls to come out with the awards. However, Im not sure of the sample size they have. I would definetely like to find out if they use a large sample size, so that the awards are not biased. Nice thought.
On your Zip Car comment- Zip car has sort of a monopoly in the car sharing market. The innovation and growth combined with Guest satisfaction would be the likely reason for them getting the award. Especially in your market, DC, it has achieved a monopoly. Good news is that 2-3 companies will be competing with them soon. Competition is always good for consumers. I will get you more concrete answere to your questions. Till then, I hope these would suffice.
